Frequently Asked Questions

How warm are the Reima Hanskas Winter Gloves?
The Hanskas have 170g PrimaLoft® Silver insulation plus a soft fleece lining, giving kids substantial warmth without making the gloves unnecessarily bulky. We like them for skiing, Outdoor School, sledding, recess, and everyday winter play. One thing to remember: gloves separate the fingers, so if your child's hands tend to get cold easily, a mitten will generally provide more warmth.
Are the Reima Hanskas Gloves actually waterproof?
Yes. The Hanskas have a waterproof insert, and Reima describes the finished gloves as waterproof. They're designed for normal winter conditions like falling snow, wet snow, building snow forts, and hands-on outdoor play. For puddle play, standing water, or extremely wet slush, we'd still choose PU rain mittens. Waterproof winter gloves and PU gear are designed for different types of water exposure.
Should I choose the Hanskas Gloves or the Reima Lapases Mittens?
This really comes down to dexterity versus maximum warmth. Choose the Hanskas when your child needs separate fingers for things like gripping ski poles, sled ropes, equipment, or other gear. Choose the Lapases mitten when keeping hands as warm as possible is the bigger priority. Both have 170g PrimaLoft® Silver insulation, but fingers generally stay warmer together inside a mitten.
Are these durable enough for kids who are outside every day?
That's one of the reasons we like the Hanskas for Outdoor School and frequent winter play. The ReimaTec Duraplus shell has an 80,000 abrasion-resistance rating, with additional reinforcement on the palms and thumbs. Those are exactly the areas that tend to take the most wear when kids climb, carry sticks, grab sleds, and use their hands to explore.
