Frequently Asked Questions

Why do winter socks matter if my child already has warm boots?
A good winter boot can only do so much if the layer inside isn't managing warmth and moisture well. Kids' feet can get surprisingly sweaty while they're running, climbing, and playing, and damp feet can start feeling cold quickly. The Atleetti combines merino wool with technical fibers to help provide warmth while managing moisture, making the sock an important part of the winter layering system—not just an extra layer inside the boot.
Are the Reima Atleetti socks warm enough for cold winter days?
Yes. The Atleetti uses a merino wool blend with a soft terry interior for added warmth and comfort. One of the reasons we like merino for winter is that it can continue to provide warmth even when it becomes moist. They're a great choice for Outdoor School, skiing, snow play, and everyday winter boots.
Should I put two pairs of socks on my child when it's really cold?
Usually, no. More socks don't automatically mean warmer feet. Doubling up can make a properly fitted boot too tight, which isn't what we want when trying to keep feet comfortable and warm. We prefer one good technical winter sock with a properly fitting boot rather than stacking multiple pairs. The Atleetti provides warmth, cushioning, and moisture management without requiring an extra sock underneath.
Are these only for skiing, or can kids wear them with regular winter boots?
Definitely not just for skiing. The Atleetti works well inside ski boots and everyday waterproof winter boots, making it a versatile option for Outdoor School, recess, sledding, winter walks, and regular cold-weather play. The mid-calf height also gives kids useful coverage without being unnecessarily tall.
What makes these different from regular cotton socks?
The biggest difference is how they handle moisture and changing temperatures. Cotton can hold onto moisture once feet get sweaty or damp, which isn't ideal for long stretches outside in winter. The Atleetti combines merino wool with technical fibers to provide warmth and support moisture management, plus terry cushioning and reinforced high-wear areas. For kids spending real time outside in cold weather, we'd choose a technical wool-blend sock over an everyday cotton sock.
