Classic waterproof rain mittens in adult sizes, with a recycled fleece lining, 10,000 mm PU shell and long cuff for muddy, wet days outside.
Product Description
Now we can play in the mud and water right alongside the kids. The ODSS by Muddy Puddles Adult Fleece-Lined Rain Mittens are the classic fully lined, waterproof rain mitten, made in grown-up sizes for parents, teachers, outdoor educators and anyone who spends wet days outside with their hands in the action.
Traditional rain mittens are an outdoor-school staple for kids, yet they are surprisingly hard to find for adults. Most adult options are insulated ski gloves or technical gloves built for other sports. These are the simple version: a waterproof PU shell, a soft recycled fleece lining, an extended cuff and an elastic wrist strap with snaps. Pull them on over your jacket sleeves, and the puddle, the mud kitchen and the wet log are all fair game.
Why You'll Love It
- Waterproof PU shell: Muddy Puddles rates the shell waterproof to 10,000 mm, so your hands stay dry while you dig, scoop, splash and carry wet sticks.
- Soft recycled fleece lining: The 100% recycled fleece lining adds warmth on cool, damp days and is comfortable enough to wear on its own.
- Long cuff over your sleeves: The extended cuff pulls up over a jacket sleeve so rain runs off the outside instead of into your sleeve.
- Wrist strap with snaps: An elastic strap snaps closed at the wrist to help hold the mittens in place and keep water out.
- Made from recycled materials: Muddy Puddles makes the shell from recycled polyester with a PU coating and the lining from recycled fleece.
- Easy to fit: A traditional rain-mitten shape with plenty of room, so there is no finger-length guesswork.
Built for Real Outdoor Use
These are made for the days most adult gear is not: a full morning teaching outside in steady rain, a forest school circle on wet ground, building a creek dam with a group of four-year-olds, or a mud kitchen that needs a grown-up's help. When your hands stay dry, it is easier to stay in the play instead of watching from the edge.
They also earn a spot in the car or the pack for rainy hikes, wet dog walks, garden work, spring thaw and the walk back to the trailhead. On colder days, slip a thin wool or fleece liner glove underneath; the waterproof outer mitten keeps that layer dry.
Things to Know
-
Fit and sizing: Traditional rain mittens are cut roomy, with plenty of wiggle room in the fit. Use this general guide:
- Adult S/M: hand circumference about 6.5–8 in, hand length about 6.25–7.25 in. Fits most women's hands and smaller men's hands.
- Adult M/L: hand circumference about 8–9.5 in, hand length about 7.25–8.5 in. Fits most men's hands and larger women's hands.
- How to measure: For circumference, wrap a tape around your palm just below the knuckles, not including your thumb. For length, measure from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger.
- Between sizes or wearing a liner underneath? Choose M/L.
- A rain mitten, not a ski mitten: The fleece lining adds warmth, but these are not insulated winter mittens. For cold, wet days, layer a thin wool or fleece liner underneath.
- Waterproof, not breathable: PU keeps water out and also keeps moisture in, so hands may feel warm and damp during hard work on mild days.
- Mittens, not gloves: You trade some finger dexterity for dry, warm hands. Slip one off for zippers, buckles and phones.
- Care: Wipe clean with a damp cloth or rinse off mud with water, then hang to dry. We recommend wiping PU gear clean instead of machine washing to help the waterproof coating last.

Why ODSS Recommends It
Kids have had good rain mittens for years. Adults have mostly made do with ski gloves or cold, wet hands. These close that gap: the same simple, waterproof, lined design, sized for grown-ups who spend wet days outside.
We especially like them for teachers and outdoor educators who get into the mud alongside their group. Dry hands make it easier to say yes to the creek, the puddle and one more round in the mud kitchen, and to stay outside a little longer.
