Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Reima Stavanger different from other Reima snowsuits?
The Stavanger is the snowsuit we look at when durability is a top priority. Reima describes it as its most durable ReimaTec one-piece, with heavy-duty fabric rated at over 80,000 Martindale abrasion cycles. Pair that with full waterproofing, warm insulation, and excellent breathability, and you have a suit made for kids who don't just occasionally play in the snow—they spend a serious amount of their winter outside.
Is the Stavanger a good choice for Outdoor School or Forest School?
Absolutely. In fact, this is one of our top choices for kids who attend Outdoor School or Forest School because their gear gets used differently than typical snow gear. Kids are kneeling, crawling, climbing over logs, sitting in the snow, and wearing their outerwear for hours at a time. The Stavanger's exceptional durability, waterproof construction, and breathability make it particularly well suited to that kind of frequent, hard-working use.
Will the Reima Stavanger keep my child dry in wet snow?
Yes. The Stavanger has waterproof ReimaTec fabric rated over 12,000 mm, and every seam is taped waterproof. That's an important combination because it means the entire suit—not simply the fabric—is designed for waterproof winter protection. It's an excellent choice for sledding, snow forts, wet snow, and long snowy days outside. For prolonged puddle play or sitting and splashing in standing water, we still recommend PU rain gear, which is specifically designed for that type of water exposure.
How warm is the Stavanger, and what should my child wear underneath it?
Reima gives the Stavanger a temperature guideline of approximately 35°F to -5°F (0°C to -20°C). Start with a wool or technical base layer, then add a fleece or wool midlayer when conditions call for more warmth. On milder or highly active days, your child may need less underneath. We love a layering system because it lets parents adjust warmth throughout the season rather than putting kids in the same heavy layers regardless of the day's conditions.
Is a one-piece snowsuit practical for older kids, or mainly for toddlers?
Don't underestimate a one-piece for bigger kids—especially kids who spend hours outside. With the Stavanger available through 10Y, older children get the same big advantage toddlers do: continuous coverage with no gap between a jacket and snow pants. Snow has fewer opportunities to sneak in while kids sled, roll, climb, and bend, and there's one less piece of outerwear to keep track of. For kids who genuinely live in their snow gear during winter, that simplicity can be a major advantage.
